Bread White Sliced Opened Strata
Transform slightly expired sliced white bread into a savory breakfast casserole.
Ingredients
- 6 slices of slightly expired white bread
- 1 cup shredded cheese
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a baking dish.
Cut the slightly expired white bread into small cubes.
Spread half of the bread cubes evenly in the baking dish.
Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the bread cubes.
In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, dried thyme, dried oregano, dried parsley, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread and cheese in the baking dish.
Repeat the layers with the remaining bread cubes, shredded cheese, and egg mixture.
Press down gently on the bread cubes to ensure they are soaked in the egg mixture.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
Bake for 30 minutes.
Remove the aluminum foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.
Allow the strata to cool for a few minutes before serving.
