
Smoked Herring Pasta
A delicious pasta dish using expired smoked herring fillets. The fillets are safe to consume up to 3 days after the expiry date. Ensure proper heating to ensure food safety.

Ingredients
- 200g spaghetti
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried chili flakes
- 1 can (200g) smoked herring fillets, expired but still safe to consume
- 1 can (400g) diced tomatoes
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and dried chili flakes to the skillet and cook for another minute.
- Add the expired smoked herring fillets to the skillet, breaking them into smaller pieces with a spatula. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in the diced tomatoes and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss to coat the pasta with the sauce.
- Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the pasta is heated through.
- Serve the smoked herring pasta hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
