Ale-Battered Onion Rings
Transform expired Flanders Red Ale into a delicious beer batter for crispy onion rings. This recipe ensures food safety while reducing food waste.
Ingredients
- 1 large onion, sliced into rings
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 cup Flanders Red Ale (expired but still safe to consume)
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
Slowly pour the Flanders Red Ale into the dry ingredients while whisking to create a smooth batter.
Let the batter rest for 10 minutes.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
Dip the onion rings into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
Carefully drop the battered onion rings into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
Remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Repeat the frying process with the remaining onion rings.
Serve the ale-battered onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
