A comforting dessert recipe that transforms expired whole wheat bread into a delicious pudding.
Ingredients
- 6 slices of expired whole wheat bread
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
Cut the expired bread slices into small cubes or tear them into bite-sized pieces.
In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to steam. Do not let it boil.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
Add the bread cubes and raisins (if using) to the mixture and let them soak for about 10 minutes.
Pour the mixture into the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the pudding is set and golden brown on top.
Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
