Sourdough Bread Pudding
A delicious and comforting dessert that repurposes expired sourdough bread, reducing food waste while ensuring food safety.
Ingredients
- 3 cups stale sourdough bread, cubed
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Add the stale sourdough bread cubes to the bowl, ensuring they are fully coated in the milk mixture. Let it sit for 10 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
If desired, stir in the raisins and chopped walnuts.
Transfer the mixture to the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Serve warm as is or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Enjoy!
