
Smoked Herring Pasta
A delicious pasta dish using expired smoked herring fillets. The fillets are safe to consume up to 3 days after the expiry date. Ensure proper heating to ensure food safety.
Ingredients
- 200g spaghetti
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried chili flakes
- 1 can (200g) smoked herring fillets, expired but still safe to consume
- 1 can (400g) diced tomatoes
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and dried chili flakes to the skillet and cook for another minute.
Add the expired smoked herring fillets to the skillet, breaking them into smaller pieces with a spatula. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
Pour in the diced tomatoes and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss to coat the pasta with the sauce.
Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the pasta is heated through.
Serve the smoked herring pasta hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
