
Cheesy Baked Mac and Cheese
A comforting mac and cheese recipe that makes use of expired American cheese slices. The cheese slices are safe to consume within 180 days after expiry.
Ingredients
- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 2 cups milk
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 8 slices expired American cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it turns slightly golden.
Gradually whisk in the milk and continue cooking until the mixture thickens, around 5 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the expired American cheese slices until melted and smooth.
Add the salt, black pepper, and paprika, and stir until well combined.
Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, mixing until evenly coated.
Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
Allow the mac and cheese to cool for a few minutes before serving.
